Starter et job i Pittsburgh
After a while, buying properties in Jacksonville became a serious challenge. Insurance premiums skyrocketed, and demand for homes in the area was so high that properties were often selling for far more than they were truly worth. On top of that, my partner was eager to move into multi-unit buildings, while I still preferred focusing on single-family homes.
It felt like the right time to part ways and start a new chapter.
I took some time to reflect. Did I want to continue solo or look for a new partner? Which market made sense? And what strategy should I focus on?
Then I picked up the phone and called Daniel Tkach, one of my closest friends. He had just finished a real estate investing course focused on the U.S. market. When I asked where he planned to invest, he immediately said: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Naturally, I asked, “Why Pittsburgh?”
His answer was simple: “You can invest almost anywhere in the U.S., but Pittsburgh? That place has smukke hjem".
That was all it took for him. And for me? I went full YOLO and decided to join him.
Discovering Pittsburgh’s Potential
We started researching the city more seriously. What we found impressed us. Beyond the charming homes, Pittsburgh had gone through a transformation. It used to be a city of steel mills and older residents—after all, there’s a reason the football team is called the Steelers. But today? It’s young, vibrant, and full of life. A city filled with top universities, tech growth, and new opportunities.
We began building our team on the ground—real estate agents, contractors, inspectors, and more.
We quickly spotted a few potential deals, but for one reason or another, none of them worked out. I didn’t want to fall into the same pattern I experienced in Jacksonville—endlessly sending offers without closing a single deal. So, we decided to act fast and fly out to Pittsburgh ourselves.
And the property we landed on?
Let’s just say the trip was more than worth it...
